Program: Vanderbilt Program for Talented Youth

Location: Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tennessee)

 

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

An intensive, enriched three-week summer residential program for academically talented youth currently in 7th-11th grade. Students can be expected to learn at a high level, have lots of fun, and to form lasting friendships.

ACADEMICS – A College Experience

Program: Benjamin Carson Science Academy – Summer Science Camp

Location: Morehouse School of Medicine

 

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The curriculum will focus on life science, biomedical science and anatomical science. Also, there is a mathematics curriculum that reviews decimals, percents and fractions. Cultural class offerings in the afternoons may include African dance, martial arts, computer enrichment, chess and Capoeria. Additional activities may include motivational speakers and mentoring.

Program: CEISMC

Location: Georgia Tech

 

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

SummerScape - A science, engineering, and mathematics enrichment camp for students entering 7th and 8th grades. Summer 2006 courses include introductory aerospace engineering and advanced civil engineering. Students are supervised by undergraduate students from University System of Georgia colleges and universities or Advanced Placement junior or senior high school students. Student assistant/student ratio is 1:10. Courses are taught by experienced math and science teachers. Teacher/student ratio is 1:20. Qualified students are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. See Admission Requirements on the website for more details.

Program: Summer Science Discovery Camp & Academy

Location: Emory University School of Medicine

 

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This program provides a series of hands-on, non-classroom science exploratory experiences to middle and early high school students who will be entering the 8th -10th grades. These experiences are designed to heighten students' interest in science, make them aware of careers requiring a scientific background and introduce and/or reinforce some principles of science. Each session of the Camp will be two weeks in length and the curriculum will remain the same throughout the summer. A maximum of fifteen students will be enrolled in each session.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Saturday is not your typical day for school, but participants in Georgia State University’s Saturday School for Scholars and Leaders are not your typical students. Each session, educators teach a variety of enrichment classes, on topics ranging from the fine arts to math and science, designed to challenge participants at all grade levels (K-8th). Courses: Beginning Microbiology, Chess, Java Programming I, Joyous Numbers, Medical Microbiology, Nummo, Presentations to Remember, Reader’s Theater, Roman Empire, Science – This & That, X-Treme Microsoft Word, Young Scientists on Safari.

Program: Clark Atlanta University Lady Panthers Basketball Camp

Location: Clark Atlanta University

 

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This is a commuter camp designed for girls in the 5th-12th grades. Activities include detailed skill instructions, drills, contests, competitive team play, guest lectures, nutrition, weight training, and will emphasize the important issues that college-bound athletes should know. Program: Atlanta Street Theatre’s Summer 2005 Youth Workshop

Location: Clark Atlanta University

 

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Accomplished theatre professional train youth ages 12-18 in small groups in acting, improvisational theatre, movement and voice. All participants create short original plays. Some present their short plays to parents and friends in a closing day performance. Others tour their play at metro Atlanta locations.

Program: Summer Transportation Institute

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Middle and high school students participate in a series of academic and practical experiences designed to motivate them toward professions in the transportation industry. The program show the students what the transportation industry employs: administrators, political scientists, social scientists, computer scientists, as well as engineers (mechanical, electrical, civil, etc.) The program is designed for upcoming 9th -12th grade students with a minimum grade point average of 3.00. Students must express a sincere interest in science, engineering or mathematics or any related field pertinent to transportation, in their application.

The Young Scholars Institute participants reside with professional, highly trained staff in a secure, air-conditioned university residence hall. PROGRAM: Howard University

Howard University’s National Bar Association Crump Law Camp is designed as an introduction to the American Judicial System for grades nine through eleven. (between 14 and 17) Students are also paired with college and law students, professors and practicing attorneys to serve as mentors as the students continue through high school and college. PROGRAM: Organization of Black Airline Pilots

The Organization of Black Airline Pilots and Delta Airlines sponsor a weeklong aviation summer camp. The program introduces the world of aviation to young people 14 – 18 years of age who are interested in becoming pilots or other aviation professionals. PROGRAM: Atlanta Chapter Aviation Career Education

The NBCFAE Atlanta Chapter will hold an Aviation Career Education (ACE) each summer.

The purpose of this week is to introduce interested youth to the world of Aviation by exposing them to many challenging careers and opportunities the aviation industry has to offer.

As members of the ACE Camp you may:

· Take an orientation flight in a powered aircraft.

· Receive an introduction to aviation ground school.

· Take field trips to different aviation related facilities.

· Learn good qualities of leadership.

· Learn to associate and work with other youth.

· Meet professionals from the aviation community.

 Admission Requirements

Students must be:

· 13 to 17 years of age with a sincere interest in learning about aviation careers.

· Physically able to participate in an active outdoor life.

· Abide by all regulations of the Camp and exhibit excellent character and conduct.
